20/20 Vision Day 9 Devotional 11/30/09 by Pastor Mark
As you will notice, I have already had you read 2 Corinthians chapter eight on day three of our 20/20 devotions, but I think it is worthy of a second look. As with the story of Ruth, God works in famine as well as during times of prosperity. Having a life of comfort and cushion often masks our real pain and our need for the Lord. So allow God to speak to you at the end of this year. Let Him know that you still trust Him and want to be filled with His abundant joy, even if your resources have dwindled. Remember that our God is looking at your heart, not just the amount you give. Have a great day.
“Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.” 2 Corinthians 8:1,2 (NLT)
Prayer: “Dear God, what are You asking me to give, even in these economically challenging times?”

20/20 Vision Day 8 Devotional 11/29/09 by Pastor Mark
This commission in Acts chapter 1, was given to all of us, not simply the “professional preacher.” We are all to be about the business of leading friends and family to the Lord. When the power of the Holy Spirit moves through you, it is like an electric shock. Wow! To see God move in someone’s life and to know that you were part of that is amazing! Try it, you will like it; there is nothing that tops it. Make this day count for His kingdom.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NLT)
Prayer: “Dear God, extend our church outreach to every part of the world.”

20/20 Vision Day 7 Devotional 11/28/09 by Pastor Mark
The Advent season has officially begun. Yesterday lights were put up all over our subdivision with the anticipation of Christmas day. In our home, we carefully set out a half dozen nativity scenes, for we want to emphasize the birth of the Savior, Christ the Lord. Take a few minutes today to reflect on what He has done for you, and how that changes your attitude towards our community. You will read Jeremiah 29 today, and find how God wanted His people to pray and serve their city. 2010 will be a great year for Gateway Church to reach out to those around us; pray that you will find your part and be faithful in it.
“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." Jeremiah 29:7 (NIV)
Prayer: “Dear God, help me to know how to serve our community. Show me ways to make it better.”

20/20 Vision Day 6 Devotional 11/27/2010 by Pastor Mark
Well, today is “Black Friday” and people are lined up outside stores all over America to get those early morning bargains. Retailers are tingling with excitement over the prospects of finally turning a profit for this year, and the Christmas season officially begins. In the midst of all of this, we must not forget that the greatest gift we can give one another is love. Not the latest gadget, gizmo, or gift card; it is the loving embrace, kind words and deeds that come from a pure heart. This is the essence of John’s words to us, and in today’s passage of 1John 3, so read, pray and obey. Go ahead and shop ‘til you drop, just make sure that you remember since God loved us, we ought to love one another.
“This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.” 1 John 3:11 (NIV)
Prayer: “Dear God, how can we improve in our love for one another? Use me first.”

20/20 Vision Day 5 Devotional 11/26/2009, A Day for Giving Thanks by Pastor Mark
Dear Friends,
Our day will be filled with a traditional family feast with all the fixings of a Norman Rockwell painting. But no matter where you are today or what you eat for dinner, stop and give thanks, because it all comes from our Lord. He put this wonderful planet together for our enjoyment and stewardship. My thanks today will not only be for family, but also for our country, those who protect it, the freedoms we have, the prosperity we enjoy and the responsibility all of that brings. I am also grateful for the church He allows me to lead. May you and your loved ones have a great Thanksgiving.

“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” Psalm 100 (NLT)
Prayer: “Dear God, thank you for all You have given to us as a country, a church and a community.”
